The Godfather: Making-of film with Jake Gyllenhaal in the making

"Francis and the Godfather" tells the story of the creation of the classic film "The Godfather". Oscar Isaac and Jake Gyllenhaal play along.

In his drama "Francis and the Godfather", Barry Levinson (78) tells the story of how the classic "The Godfather" came about. As "Deadline" now reports, Oscar Isaac (41, "Star Wars – The Force Awakens") will play the legendary director Francis Ford Coppola (81). Colleague Jake Gyllenhaal (39, "Nocturnal Animals") will play Robert Evans (1930-2019), the then head of Paramount Pictures.

The focus of the film's story is the bumpy development of the Mafia flick and how, contrary to all expectations, a doomed production became a classic in film history. As a creative head, Coppola opposes Evans who is interested in profit. Coppola, who himself recently announced a revised version of the third "The Godfather" part, has already expressed his enthusiasm for the film: "Every film that Levinson makes is interesting and significant."

"The Godfather" based on the novel of the same name by Mario Puzo was published in 1972. Marlon Brando (1924-2004) and Al Pacino (80) played the leading roles. The second part was published in 1974. Coppola was never completely convinced of part three, which premiered in 1990. Its revised version is due to be released in theaters this December. "Francis and the Godfather" does not have a start date yet.
