Like every year, tech Youtuber Marques Brownlee presented his Smartphones Awards for 2022. This year, the Google Pixel 7 won the prize for best smartphone, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max was voted best photophone. Find the full list of awards in this article.
2021 had been an excellent year in terms of smartphones, as shown by the now traditional Smartphone Awards by Marques Brownlee (otherwise known as MKBHD). If the Galaxy S21 Ultra had won the award for best smartphone of the year, Apple had taken a big slice of the cake with no less than 3 awards given to theiPhone 13 Pro Max out of a total of 8. A fine performance in a market largely dominated by Android.
This year, however, the situation has changed significantly. This time, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is only mentioned twice in the Smartphone Awards, and not really in the expected category. On the other hand, 2022 marks the coronation of a new challenger to be taken seriously: the Google Pixel 7, named best smartphone of the year. A prize that is due to it for its excellence in photography, but also for its unbeatable value for money in 2022.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is therefore not doing so badly, still winning the prize for the best “big” smartphone, a title justified by its giant 6.7-inch screen. Conversely, the best “small” smartphone is theAsus ZenFone 9, which we also sang the praises of in our test. Although Marques Brownlee named the Pixel 6 a the best photophone in its last blind test, it was ultimately the iPhone 14 Pro Max that won the prize in this category.
Finally, theAsus ROG Phone 6 wins the award for best autonomy, while the award for best design goes, unsurprisingly, to the incomparable Nothing Phone (1). Special mention to OnePlus 10T, which obviously greatly disappointed Marques Brownlee. Here is the complete ranking of these Smartphones Awards 2022:
