The Google Pixel Fold and its Tensor G2 finally appear on benchmarks

The Google Pixel Fold has retained a part of mystery, its launch initially expected in 2022 having obviously been postponed. But while it was believed for a long time to be forgotten, information about it is multiplying again on the Web. A few weeks ago, 3D renderings of the smartphone gave us a first idea of ​​its design.

The device adopts as expected a book format, which is reminiscent of the latest Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, little information about its technical data sheet had leaked until then.

This was without counting the data from the Geekbench site, which lists the performance of the vast majority of SoCs in circulation. We can indeed see that a product called Google Felix, the code name of the Pixel Fold, has recently been added. It is equipped with a Tensor G2 chip, the same one that powers the recent Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

A unified SoC?

The 5nm chipset has two high-performance cores clocked at 2.85 GHz, with two more cores running at 2.35 GHz, and four low-frequency cores (1.80 GHz) for lighter tasks. The set is accompanied by a Mali-G710 GPU. This model would therefore not benefit from boosted frequencies compared to the rest of the range. The site indicates that it works with 12 GB of RAM and runs directly on Android 13. We can therefore expect performance very similar to that of the Pixel 7 Pro, which does not disappoint us on this side.

On paper, the results obtained on single-core and multi-core tests (1047 and 3257 points) are worse than on a Galaxy Z Fold 4. Better to wait for a visit to our lab to be sure.

Google should logically offer a photographic experience similar to its latest mobiles. According to FoneArena, you can bet on a triple module consisting of a 64-megapixel Sony IMX787 main sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module (Sony IMX386) and a telephoto module with a 10-megapixel sensor (a Samsung S5K3J1) .

For selfies, you will have to reckon with the 9.5 megapixel front sensor housed in a notch located on the 6.19-inch external screen. The main slab could measure up to 8 inches when unfolded, and accommodate a sensor of the same type.

According to the site, the Pixel Fold would cost $1,799, the same price as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 when it launched in the United States last August. Its launch could take place in May 2023, which seems consistent with the Google I/O agenda.
