Last year, Google unfortunately did not make the entry into the world of connected watches that we could have hoped for from the manufacturer. Although the various rumors in the hallway agreed that the American giant could establish itself as a serious competitor to Apple or Samsung, like smartphones, the Pixel Watch ultimately suffered from several notable flaws: very fragile screen , missing key features, imprecise sensors… The watch also accused a weak autonomy, thus giving hope for many improvements for a possible second iteration.

Pixel Watch 2: a chipset change that should relieve the battery
According to 9to5Google, the Pixel Watch 2 will make a significant change in terms of processor. If the first model was powered by the Exynos 9110, engraved in 10 nm, the new connected watch from Google should probably be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5+ SoC, engraved in 4 nm. This change should directly affect the battery life and would improve it significantly. We are talking about a battery life of more than 48 hours with the Always On display activated for the Pixel Watch 2, where last year’s model struggled to achieve this result, even with some sacrifices.
So this is great news that should undoubtedly delight those who were disappointed with the autonomy of Google’s first smartwatch. Obviously, this processor change should also affect performance, leading in particular to greater responsiveness when it comes to the interface, all helped by support for Wear OS 4. The sports monitoring is not up to current standards at 400 euros. Same for autonomy, limited to one day (except to make a lot of concessions). Unless the design of the Pixel Watch catches your eye, we would advise you to go for the Galaxy Watch 5 instead, which is much more complete and less expensive. Or wait for the arrival of future Wear OS smartwatches with Snapdragon W5 SoCs.
