The Google Pixel Watch will soon gain a vital function

Introduced in 2018 by Apple on its 4th generation of connected watch, fall detection is coming to Google’s Pixel Watch. An option that was already available on other Android watches.

Google’s smartwatch is getting even better after its release. Released in October 2022, Google Pixel Watch users should soon receive an update to take advantage of a new feature, reports XDA Developers: fall detection.

Concretely, if you fall suddenly while you are wearing the watch and you do not move for 30 seconds, it will ask you if you need help, then contact the emergency services one minute later if not. Answer.

Available since 2018 from Apple

If this technology has already equipped our seniors for a long time through electronic bracelets, it was Apple who was the first to integrate it into its Apple Watch Series 4 in 2018. A technology that has already saved lives and now equips other smartwatch brands, such as Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5.

However, although the Pixel Watch had the necessary technology within it, this security was missing when it was released in late 2022.

Vital security… disabled by default

In its press release, Google claims to have waited to test this function permanently before making it available, in order to avoid false detections.

It is therefore done, even if the option will not be activated by default: if you are the owner of a Pixel Watch, you will have to go to the settings of the Personal Security application. A regrettable additional step, since all its owners will not think about it.
