Near the current GoPro HERO11 Black, the HERO12 Black is the subject of a leak allowing us to discover its technical specifications a little in advance. We take stock of what this news cam action should suggest.

Evolution without revolution, that’s obviously what to expect from the next GoPro HERO12 Black. The new action cam from the Californian giant would indeed take up the main characteristics of its predecessor, the excellent GoPro HERO11 Black, and in particular its sensor. Some novelties would still be relevant, if we are to believe the information unearthed by Roland Quandt, journalist for the German site WinFutureoften well informed.

27 megapixels and 5.3K capture at 60 frames per second

We first learn that this new HERO12 would be equipped with a 1/1.9 inch sensor (instead of the 1 inch sensor initially planned, then abandoned), 27 megapixels, capable of filming in definition 5 .3K at 60 frames per second maximum. We should therefore not enjoy a higher image quality than the HERO11 already offers. Nevertheless, WinFuture evokes support for HyperSmooth 6.0 technology, which allows for even more advanced stabilization during video recording.

Like last year, the HERO12 would also offer two screens: one on the front and the other on the back. The main slab, installed on the back of the camera, will resume for its part measurements identical to that of the HERO11, with 2.27 x 1.4 inches. No edge-to-edge screen this year, therefore.

A (slightly) improved autonomy without a price increase?

GoPro, on the other hand, would rely on better autonomy without changing the battery (we would remain on a capacity of 1,720 mAh). With this battery, which can logically be replaced on the fly, we should be able to film for 70 minutes in 5.3K definition at 60 frames per second, and for 90 minutes at 30 frames per second. The gain compared to the current model would therefore be around 10 minutes.

Obviously, recording in 1080p at 30 frames per second, the autonomy would this time exceed the cap of 2 hours 30 minutes of capture. The GoPro HERO12 Black would weigh for the rest 154 grams and would be waterproof up to 10 meters without a case.

As for its availability? Roland Quandt mentions a price of 449.99 euros in Europe, and a launch date on September 13. While waiting for its release, you can also take a look at other action cams like the DJI Osmo Action 3.
