The government is setting up an interministerial delegation to coordinate “State action in terms of securing suppliesin minerals and strategic metals, according to a decree published on Sunday in the Official Journal and which will come into force on Monday. This decreecreates an interministerial delegation for the supply of strategic minerals and metals, which reports to the Prime Minister» and who will be awarded the «secretariat of the committee for strategic metals“.
Cobalt, nickel, lithium, rare earths… France, and more broadly Europe, produce almost no critical metals and have to import almost everything when the needs are exploding (batteries, electric motors, etc.) and the supply tensions are just beginning.
Securing supply
This delegation will be responsible for “monitor the implementation of the strategic minerals and metals supply policy” and of “contribute to strengthening the coherence between public policies relating to national defence, industry, energy, environmental protection, ecological transition, international trade and foreign affairs and the policy for the supply of minerals and strategic metals“.

She will be responsible forleading and coordinating work to identify vulnerabilities linked to supply (…) in particular by ensuring the management of a French observatory for strategic minerals and metals“. She will watchthe implementation of actions to secure supplies (…) led by the ministers in charge of raw materials and mining policy, industry, ecological transition and energy (…) as well as users and producers of strategic minerals and metals“.
