the government wants to restore the senior index at the Snat

The government intends to restore during the examination of the pension reform project in the Senate the index on seniors rejected Tuesday evening by the National Assembly, indicated Wednesday its spokesman Olivier Vran, by qualifying the vote of policy and not understandable.

The government would like this article (establishing an index of seniors) to be restored during the examination of the text in the Senate, said the government representative during the report of the Council of Ministers. This vote (against the index) is incomprehensible. It is more political and it demonstrates that the objective of the Nupes and RN oppositions is not to beat unemployment and injustice but to beat the government, said Olivier Vran.

Asked whether the index, which aims to measure the employment of employees managed by companies, would be restored for companies with more than 300 employees or more than 50 employees, Olivier Vran replied that this threshold would be determined in the coming days.

Compulsory index no later than 2025

The government wants to make the index compulsory from November 2023 for companies with more than 1,000 employees, for those with more than 300 employees from July 2024, and those with more than 50 employees from July 2025, this last threshold having been added by amendments from all benches.

Employers should be subject to financial penalties if the index is not published, but no obligation of result has been set in terms of the employment of seniors.

On the sanctions, the government remains listening, open both to the National Assembly this week again, and then listening to senators when the debate begins there at the end of February, added Olivier Vran.

The government suffered a first major setback with the rejection of the index for seniors, while Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne had just unveiled new concessions to Republicans on long careers.

After three days of debate marked by very lively incidents, the National Assembly rejected Article 2 establishing this index by 256 votes to 203, with eight abstentions. Thirty-eight LR deputies voted against, thus putting pressure on the government.
