The vital card could, according to the Minister of Action and Public Accounts, finally disappear to be directly integrated into the identity card.

The vital card is surely the identity document which has undergone the most changes recently, with in particular the introduction of the vital e-card. But the government could well go further on the issue and go from dematerialization to disappearance.

Stop cheating!

How to put an end to fraud and avoid the use of a person’s vital card by a third party? Well the Minister of Action and Public Accounts Gabriel Attal seems to have a solution: “ A merger of the vital card and the identity card in a single secure card. “This idea would be both” a simplification measure and an additional guarantee on the identity of the person and the associated rights “, according to the minister.

The latter cites the examples of Belgium, Portugal and Sweden, where the two documents have already merged. This decision could perhaps put our country on the path of Estonia, this Baltic country where the digital identity card combines the functions of voter card, transport ticket or even medical card.

This new card would make it possible to fight against medical tourism, which represents a cost of several million euros per year. Above all, it would cost less than the digital vital card project, currently being deployed. This project therefore seems destined for the trash. ” It would be very expensive, 250 million euros per year. Doctors are not particularly supportive of taking impressions of their patients “, informs Gabriel Attal.

If the project has the favor of the authorities, there is still a stone in the shoe: the current very long delays in obtaining an identity card. The merger should therefore not happen immediately. ” Obviously, this project cannot be considered until the card production times have returned to normal! We need an ambitious and credible timetable “Concludes the tenant of Bercy.
