PARIS (Reuters) – The Governor of the Banque de France, François Villeroy de Galhau, on Friday proposed an increase in the Livret A rate to 1% and recommended raising the remuneration of the Livret d’Epargne Populaire (LEP) to 2.2 %.

The Livret A rate of return has remained at a historic low of 0.5% since February 1, 2020 and that of the LEP, reserved for the most modest categories, is currently 1.0%.

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, is preparing to announce the government’s final decision on raising these rates, which will take effect at the beginning of next month.
