Until now, console/PC hybrids had a design close to the Switch, Steam Deck Understood. So far…

One thing is certain, we are not idle among Asian manufacturers of hybrid machines halfway between the portable console and the PC. One of the most active, GPD, offers an original “clamshell” format.

Released less than a month ago, the Win 4 is the latest machine from GPD. We are also preparing a test of this small console which has made a name for itself thanks to its design very close to that of the Sony PSP.

However, GPD does not intend to renew this format for its next machine, and the Win Mini will rather take up the “clamshell” style, or “clamshell” as English speakers say, which has made the success of many portable consoles from Nintendo such as the DS and 3DS.

For now, we have no photo or video of the beast, but several drawings have been relayed by VideoCardz. The machine looks set to measure 167 x 108 x 25 millimeters, and the Indiegogo fundraising campaign is said to kick off next June for an October or November release.

Much less surprisingly, GPD will adopt an AMD solution on this machine, a Ryzen Phoenix with Zen 4 (CPU) and RDNA 3 (GPU) technologies. Like many competitors, we are talking about a 7-inch diagonal panel for a definition of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.

GPD fixes the refresh rate at 120 Hz, and more interestingly, it also mentions the possibility of an external graphics card station. Of course, this is made possible by the rich connectivity of the Win Mini which integrates Thunderbolt 4 and OCuLink 2, a solution close to the XG Mobile connector adopted by ASUS, but which has the advantage of being an open standard.

If the crowdfunding starts in June 2023, we will know more soon. However, it is already important to note that a version based on Ryzen 5 7640U is planned for more or less 700 dollars, while a high-end model (Ryzen 7 7840U) is also planned.
