The great world theater piece celebrates diversity and asks critical questions

It is intended to be a reflection of our times and is the first theater production in the cultural capital of Bad Ischl: The Salzburg director Reinhold Tritscher premieres “The Great World Theater” and holds a mirror up to society. It is a piece about the big issues of our time.

Amateur actors, some with disabilities, others without, mingle with professional actors – the co-production of the private Salzburg theater Ecce and Bad Ischl (this year’s Capital of Culture) does not skimp on addressing current challenges directly and conveying them from the stage artistically, but directly to the audience . “We don’t have answers to burning social questions, but we are allowed to ask them,” explains director Reinhold Tritscher. It’s about climate change, genetic experiments, flight and poverty. And the audience should make up their own minds about the solutions. “It is a completely presumptuous attempt to describe the time of upheaval in which we live using scenes,” explains Tritscher, describing the sensitivity that is needed to artistically process current discussions. The basis of the “Great World Theater” is the piece “El gran teatro del mundo” from 1630, written by the Spanish playwright Pedro Calerón de la Barca. Tritscher adapted the piece and turned it into an inclusive piece that addresses current issues. The actors embody different groups that are intended to represent society in its entirety and show its diversity. She partly cast Tritscher at Lebenshilfe and in the Volkstheaterwerkstätten Salzburg and Saalfelden, where everyone can try out acting. “The world theater should represent the entire spectrum of society and show its diversity,” says Tritscher. “The Great World Theater” was performed in Bad Goisern at the end of February, and the last performance will take place on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the Salzburg Scene. Entry costs 29 euros, reduced price 25 euros. Tickets are still available.
