The ecologists of Europe Ecologie – Les Verts (EELV) decided on Tuesday not to participate in the National Council for Refoundation (CNR) that Emmanuel Macron will launch on September 8, thus joining most of the opposition parties.
“There was a consensus” within the executive office not to go there, explained to AFP the number 2 of the party, Sandra Regol. “If it was a real working meeting, we would have gone there. But that sounds more like a communication tool. We didn’t see the point of going there,” she said.
“We have the experience of the National Assembly where for almost two months we have had a wall of inadmissibility on each of our proposals, and the experience of the citizens’ convention on the climate. Scalded cat fears the cold water,” Ms. Regol continued.
Tuesday morning on LCI, the national secretary of EELV Julien Bayou had already expressed his skepticism: “If it is a high mass, where he (Emmanuel Macron) is in shirt sleeves and he is doing the one man show, that we have already seen, it is useless”.
The Republicans, insubordinate France and the National Rally have already announced that they will boycott the CNR, as well as the LR president of the Senate, Gérard Larcher.
