The hair accessory you absolutely need is him!

Practical on a daily basis especially with long hair, this hair accessory that we reserved at home (or in the bathroom) is making a comeback in all hair. Little hint: it came straight from the 90s.

There are accessories that we proudly wore in our hair in the '90s but never thought we would show off in public again. The hair accessory that all the starlets tear off and use to style their hair today is one of them. Indeed, the supermodels stars of our generation – Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid in the lead – do not cease adopting the flagship beauty trends of this time and in particular the one we are going to tell you about today: the famous crab claw so practical ! Yes, yes, you read that right.
This large pliers, which owes its name to its opening and closing system which is reminiscent of the famous crustacean pliers, has a bright future ahead of it.

If the crab claw had already made a remarkable appearance in 2018 in the hair of models on the occasion of the presentation of the Fall-Winter 2018-2019 collections of Fashion Week, and in particular for the Alexander Wang show, it is clear that the fad had not followed. Until recently, we continued to use our large plastic clip just to protect our hair from water in the shower when it is not the day of the shampoo, to clear the face for the application of our care or to raise our long hair in a hurry at home in order to gain freedom of movement for cooking or any other daily task.
But in 2021, the big crab claw is back and is making an undeniable place in the hairstyle routine. It is even establishing itself as one of the most popular hair accessories of the moment. She willingly competes for first place in the ranking of the darling but undoubtedly manages to dethrone it because she has many qualities: just like him, she is able to retain all of the hair but also adapts to half-ties, she is easy to set up, it comes in many looks that allow you to customize your accessory (and hairstyle) and it is suitable for fine, thick or straight hair as well as curly hair. In short, it allows us to style our hair quickly and well, but it also wants to be more chic than the scrunchie, a real asset!

Our selection of crab claws to adopt

On the look side, the crab claw can meet almost any desire. Plain models in sober colors (such as black, white or brown) or on the contrary in flashy shades, tortoiseshell crab claw in acetate or metal clip, models adorned with pearls which give it a classic style or rhinestones. crystals to make a real hair jewel: the possibilities are almost endless. The shape of the clamp itself can also vary a lot from one model to another: rounded or rectangular shape, openwork model or not.

How to style your hair with a crab clip?

As we told you a moment ago, the crab claw allows several styling and good news, all are very easy to achieve. But the trendiest of them is undoubtedly the hasty banana bun that is held in place by the famous clip. A hairstyle finally quite elegant of which here is a video tutorial:

With just one squeeze of the crab clip, you can hold back your entire hair – locking in the hair banana created by wrapping your lengths, between the teeth of the clip – to easily make you a banana bun without bun pins.
The banana bun with a crab clip is thus ultra chic, especially on straight hair. But it also adapts to curly hair to give it a more casual but equally charming hairstyle that eliminates the need to straighten the hair first as you can see in our slide:

If you are not a fan of this type of bun, you can also combine the chunky crab claw with half-ties, especially the half-tail which is very similar but leaves the ends of the lengths free. However, it will take a bit of length for the effect to be convincing.

Finally, the crab clip will also beautifully enhance loose hair by simply holding a few framing strands back. A godsend for easy styling whatever the texture of your hair or their length, because this styling is also possible on square hair (long bob trend or french bob shorter anyway). With it, loose hair takes on a new look and is easier to live with. Again, with the accessory, the attachment is created in the blink of an eye.

How to choose your crab claw according to your hair type?

This is a question that is not often asked intuitively but is nevertheless very important! Indeed, if you have thick hair, we advise you instead to get a crab claw that has wide and spaced teeth because the spacing between the peaks of the clip will then be perfectly suited to the thickness of your locks. Ditto for very curly hair so that it can easily retain it despite the volume of your curls and without wrinkling them too much. If your hair is fine, on the other hand, you will have better grip with a crab claw with fine teeth that are tighter to each other. When you have a good hair mass (and therefore a fairly heavy hair), it is also useful to invest in a quality clip whose resistance promises better maintenance of the hairstyle, which is not as important on fine hair. These are small details that will make all the difference when it comes to styling your hair!
