The head of the gynecology department of Tenon hospital, Émile Daraï, is at the heart of a judicial investigation, opened on Tuesday, September 28, as indicated the newspaper The Parisian. This endometriosis specialist, who had already been the subject of an internal investigation at AP-HP after three reports received by the Order of Physicians in 2017, is accused of “rape of a minor” on an elderly patient 17 years old at the time of the incident. He allegedly performed brutal vaginal and rectal examinations without first seeking the complainant’s consent. A bad experience which would be far from being a unique case since the collective “Stop obstetric and gynecological violence” shared about twenty testimonies from medical students who attended the professor’s consultations. The latter continues to dispute the facts.
The founder of the collective “Stop obstetric and gynecological violence”, Sonia Bisch, explained to the Parisian during the demonstration in front of the Tenon hospital: “This doctor claimed a hundred victims. Other complaints will flow. Justice must deal with gynecological violence. I hope that these testimonials will finally cause a #MeToo gynecologist. “
Inform and respect: two imperatives
The freedom of speech by victims of sexual violence now extends to the gynecological field, where the rights and possibilities of each woman (various consultations, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding) are not always clearly explained or respected. Tenon hospital was implicated, Sunday, October 3, for alleged obstetric violence.
