Pedro Pascal should walk the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival next May to accompany the new realization of Pedro Almodovar. The Mandalorian and The Last of Us actor shares the bill with Ethan Hawke in a queer western.
The rumor is becoming more and more persistent: Pedro Almodovar should be in Cannes to unveil his new film, Strange Way of Life (Extraña forma de vida), whose main roles are held by Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke.
If the news has not been confirmed by the Cannes Film Festival, it’s a safe bet that this short film should indeed be screened, because Pedro Almodovar himself gave the information as part of a podcast with singer Dua Lipa.
This weekend, France Inter also shared informationannouncing, unconditionally, that Strange Way of Life will open the Festival on May 16.
The selection of this film gives hope for a beautiful red carpet, with the return of a great faithful of the Festival, Pedro Almodovar therefore, accompanied by an attractive cast: Pedro Pascal, carried by the successes of Mandalorian and The Last of Us, and Ethan Hawke, seen recently in Moon Knight on Disney+.

The pitch for Strange Way of Life goes like this: A sheriff named Jake and Silva live on opposite sides of a desert. The two men have not seen each other for 25 years. One of them will cross this wild place to find the other…
“It will be a western, where it will be about masculinity, but I don’t want to put a label. I don’t know what people will think of it as a western. I would say it’s a queer western“, confided Pedro Almodovar in the podcast with Dua Lipa.

Pedro Almodovar is a regular at the Cannes Film Festival: by presenting Pain and Glory in 2019, it was already the 6th selection in official competition for the Spanish filmmaker, after All About My Mother (1999), Volver (2006), Embraces broken (2009), La Piel que habito (2011) and Julieta (2016).
A very popular director at Cannes, but who still eludes the supreme award, Pedro Almodovar has also participated in the jury twice, including once as President in 2017.
