What is 7 Wonders, this board game so addicting?
In 7 Wonders, you take control of a civilization to make it evolve through the ages. Military, economic power or scientific knowledge will help you achieve your goal and, icing on the cake, build one of the wonders of antiquity. Each player is given one of the seven great cities of the ancient world with their own characteristics. You will then have to act in different sectors of development and thus, exploit the natural resources specific to your city.
The game is based on the mechanics of draft, that is to say, that of carefully selecting cards from a base of randomly drawn cards. Players choose one of their cards and give the remaining ones to their left neighbor and receive those from their right neighbor. They can use it or discard it for coins, or build a piece of their wonder, which gives them a bonus. Once all the cards have been played, the players compare the power of their military buildings and gain, or lose, victory points.
A second round called Second Age is played in the same way as the first with a few nuances. The game ends in the fourth and final age, where all the victory points from military conflicts and the wonder are counted.
Does this promotion on 7 Wonders is interesting?
At less than €30, it’s an excellent opportunity to get a terribly addictive game with in-depth, but never complex rules. The concept of draft is original and really engaging. After having mastered the rules, it is easy to chain games without seeing the time pass, including with young players. You will often have to help them manage their city and resources and build their wonder. But the initiation is worth it.
The games last a good half hour and can be played by three to seven players. The different interactions with the other players are the salt of the game and install a rather amusing climate of tension.
This new edition brings a total graphic overhaul to the game released in 2010. The rules are easier to access for beginners and young players. In addition to new illustrations, the cards are easier to read and the ergonomics of the game are improved.
