the hiker disappeared on New Year’s Day, here’s what we know about the investigation

On New Year’s Day, a 56-year-old hiker disappeared in the Drôme. She left for a walk, didn’t have her phone and gave no further sign of life.

What happened to Anne Wechsler? This 56-year-old woman disappeared on New Year’s Day in Drôme. While the body of young Maéva was found near the port of Le Havre this Tuesday, January 2, the gendarmes are still investigating the disappearance of little Émile in Haut-Vernet. That of Anna, 21, also resulted in a macabre discovery at the end of December. We hope for a less tragic outcome for this resident of Charpey, a commune in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

Monday January 1st, Anne Wechsler went for a walk near her home around 11 a.m., without telephone. Accustomed to hiking, she normally returns at lunchtime then leaves in the afternoon. But when she did not return, her husband became worried and went looking for her around 2 p.m., without success. At 6 p.m., he decided to alert the authorities.

Police investigate the disappearance of Anne Wechsler

The Drôme gendarmerie began patrols to try to find her. They searched between Charpey and Bésayes. A dog team from Pierrelatte was even dispatched Monday evening then Tuesday. Arriving from Clermont-Ferrand, a Saint-Hubert dog with exceptional scent tried to track Anne Wechsler (whose birth name was Tissier). A thermal camera helicopter also flew over the area.

A witness said he saw the hiker. But for the moment we don’t know what could have happened to him: bad fall, voluntary departure, encounter… A call for witnesses has been launched by the police. They describe a blonde woman with shoulder-length hair and blue eyes. She is 1m60 tall and weighs 40 kg. She was wearing hiking pants, a light t-shirt, a dark jacket and a black backpack. If you have any information, the number to contact is that of the Chatuzange-le-Goubet gendarmerie: 04 75 70 03 37 or 17.

As a reminder, it is recommended to take certain precautions when hiking. The French Hiking Federation specifies that it is better to avoid walking alone on certain trails, during hunting periods or in winter (risk of avalanche, cold, etc.). If you are leaving alone, inform those around you of your departure and your itinerary as well as your approximate return time. And it is better to take your cell phone with you to call for help in the event of a fall.
