Superb photographic quality and a very beautiful screen

With the quality of its photos and its very successful AMOLED screen, the Honor Magic 6 Pro fully deserves its place in our comparison of the best smartphones for photography.

Let’s start with the photo / video section. The 50MP main sensor with f/1.4-f/2 dual-aperture lens provides great flexibility for capturing photos in different light conditions. It allows you to capture photos with a high level of detail, vivid colors and great dynamics. You also benefit from a 180MP telephoto lens (perfect for distant objects) and the 50MP ultra-wide-angle (ideal for group and landscape photos). On the video side, Honor’s smartphone allows 4K video recording at 60 frames per second.

And on the screen side? The Honor Magic 6 Pro features a large 6.8-inch AMOLED display. The screen offers a resolution of 2848 x 1312 pixels and a pixel density of 456 pixels per inch.

The screen is pleasant: it is very bright and offers vivid colors and high contrast. The blacks are deep and the whites are bright. Moreover, it is compatible with HDR10+ technology, which allows images to be displayed with a wider dynamic range. Furthermore, the 120Hz refresh rate makes the screen smoother and more responsive. This is especially noticeable when playing racing games, FPS, etc.

How does the Honor Magic 6 Pro compare to other smartphones of the same price?

Honor Magic 6 Pro1091099
Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max101010910
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra1091099

First we can compare the Honor Magic 6 Pro to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

And concretely, Apple’s model is almost flawless. Its screen is even brighter than the Magic 6 Pro and it also offers superior gaming performance despite heating up quite quickly. Still, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is €100 more expensive.

The comparison also stands with Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra, whose screen is also brighter, with wider viewing angles. Performance is excellent, including in-game. Samsung’s model is €75 more expensive than Honor’s, which makes it (very slightly) more accessible than the Apple alternative.

And on the photo/video side, what does that give? The Honor Magic 6 Pro is already in the big leagues, but it considerably distances itself from its competitors. This is evidenced by the DXOMARK ranking, where it proudly sits in first place for photo (selfie and rear sensors) and video. It also stands out as a very convincing device for photos taken in a dark environment or at night.

Honor: smartphones for quality photography

Honor was launched in 2013 as a subsidiary of Huawei to target a younger, more digitally-focused audience. Following the American sanctions imposed against Huawei, the brand has since become independent.

The Honor 6 smartphone is the manufacturer’s first to achieve international success. Known for its elegant design and high performance, it also offers good photographic quality.

Precursor? That’s an understatement: the Honor 7 followed the following year and was particularly praised for its camera with a 20 MP sensor.

Honor continued its momentum in the following years, with recognized references for photography such as the Honor 9 (dual camera), the Honor 20 Pro (x3 optical zoom, quadruple camera), the Honor 30+ Pro (with 50 sensor). MP) and, in this case, the Honor Magic 6 Pro.
