Honor Magic V2

  • Screen quality
  • Compactness and ergonomics
  • Top performance
  • Good autonomy
  • Both displays compatible with a stylus
  • providing a well-designed hull
  • Disappointing ultra wide-angle
  • No AC adapter provided
  • MagicOS 7.2 not completely adapted

A successful double screen!

The Honor Magic V2 deploys two innovative LTPO OLED displays, providing users with a superb visual experience.

The 6.43-inch external screen shines with its resolution of 2376 x 1060 pixels, for strikingly sharp images. But it is when it is unfolded that the Magic V2 reveals all its splendor: a 7.92-inch main screen with a resolution of 2344 x 2156 pixels.

This display quality, combined with high maximum brightness – 2500 nits in HDR peak for the external screen and 1600 nits for the main screen – ensures excellent readability in all circumstances, even in direct sunlight.

The fluidity of the screens is another reason to love them. With a refresh rate of 120 Hz, action films and video games benefit from a smoother and sharper image, especially during intense scenes and fast movements.

How does the Honor Magic V2 compare to other foldable smartphones of the same price?

Samsung was one of the first brands to enter the folding smartphone market, and its various models are a testimony to success. Of the three devices we are comparing, the Galaxy Z Fold5 has the best performance, even if its two competitors are close behind. The other side of the coin, however, is a fairly significantly lower autonomy.

And about the quality of the screen? The Honor Magic V2, the Huawei P50 Pocket and the Fold5 are in a pocket handkerchief. Their respective screens are both qualitative, bright and perfectly adapted to foldable technology.

In short, it is difficult to decide between them solely on the level of technical characteristics and performance. So let’s talk price: of these three devices, the P50 Pocket is the most affordable. However, it suffers from an impoverished software interface and application ecosystem, as evidenced by the absence of Google services. Conversely, the price of the Fold5 is soaring, to almost €1,800. The Honor model, at around €1,399, offers attractive value for money and therefore represents a good compromise.

Founded in 2013, the Chinese brand Honor is particularly renowned for its smartphones with attractive quality-price ratios.

The manufacturer has several popular products in its catalog, like the Honor 3C, among the brand’s first affordable smartphones. The following Honors (6, 8 and 10) benefit from various improvements, particularly in terms of performance or photography (with dual sensors among others).

And what about foldable smartphones specifically? Honor is trying to catch up with Samsung with very promising models, like the Honor Magic V and the Honor Magic Fold. In addition to the always very solid technical sheet, these devices have a successful folding design.
