The Hunt for Red October: Plot

The plot of “The Hunt for Red October” takes place largely in a very small space, making for a claustrophobic thriller. As a CIA agent and former marine, Jack Ryan is not really in his element on board a submarine. But he is the only one who can stop the machinations of Marko Ramius.

With the nuclear submarine Red October, Ramius makes his way through the world’s oceans and threatens the USA with his destruction.

The Hunt for Red October: Cast

The main role of Commander Dr. Jack Ryan is played by Alec Baldwin (“97 Minutes”). His counterpart in “The Hunt for Red October” is played by none other than “James Bond” star Sean Connery.

Also starring are Scott Glenn, Sam Neill, James Earl Jones, Joss Ackland, Richard Jordan, Peter Firth, Tim Curry and Courtney B. Vance.

The Hunt for Red October: Production

“The Hunt for Red October” is based on the “Jack Ryan” novel of the same name by author Tom Clancy. It was directed by John McTiernan and the screenplay was written by Larry Ferguson and Donald E. Stewart.

The forerunner of the “Jack Ryan” series

“The Hunt for Red October” was the first film adaptation of a “Jack Ryan” novel by Tom Clancy. With his portrayal of the cult hero, Alec Baldwin created a monument to Jack Ryan that can still be appreciated today. The action film has achieved cult status and still inspires many. Anyone who has seen the film, which was lavishly staged for the time, still looks impressive today. Nevertheless, the classic good-evil cliché is disappointing and leaves a lot of potential untapped.
