"The Hunt": Internet users furious at the fiction of TF1: Femme Actuelle The MAG

It's a affair which upset the whole of France. Monday March 15, 2021, TF1 has chosen to broadcast The persuit, TV movie chronicling the pursuit and arrest of Michel Fourniret, with Yves Rénier in the lead role. The telefilm premiered on June 26, 2003, when Michel Fourniret was arrested for attempted kidnapping of a minor. The police are then convinced to be dealing with a serial killer. Gradually, it is thus linked to the disappearance of Estelle Mouzin, and to seven other murders. For years, Fourniret admits nothing … It was only in August 2020 that he confessed to the murder, 17 years after the fact. The film, in two parts, then retraces the real "psychological stalking" to bring down this serial killer. But TF1 viewers did not really approve the broadcast of this Fourniret-inspired fiction: most were even disgusted and very angry. "Impossible not to think of the pain of the parents who could be in front of their TV tonight", writes a surfer on Twitter. "We don't forget what on TF1 tonight? To boycott The persuit out of respect for the victims and not to provide Fourniret with his perverse pleasure! Go! All but that", writes a very vindictive Internet user.

Internet users angry for the victims

What bothers the most? That Michel Fourniret is still alive, in prison. Some would have preferred that we wait for his death to make such a film: "I want to watch the movie, but on the other hand I'm sick of giving so much visibility to a man like Fourniret. That's all he wants from this psychopath. He must be gloating from where he isOthers are very embarrassed for the victims and imagine their reaction to such a feature film: "I think it's a little early to broadcast this ‘series’ … Thoughts of all the people who have suffered because of him."But not everyone agrees: some viewers, on the contrary, find the feature film to be well suited:"These people who criticize The persuit without having seen it, it's beyond me … it's not because we adapt a criminal case that we have no respect for the victims and their families, or that we glorify a serial killer . This is not the case with this fiction anyway"writes a viewer.
