The Hyundai Ioniq 5 offers more range for the same price, but starts with a serious handicap

A few months after its reveal, the restyled Hyundai Ioniq 5 is finally available to order in Germany and the United Kingdom. The prices are not changing, despite the increased autonomy, but it will still not be entitled to the ecological bonus in France. Here is what you need to know about this electric car that recharges in a flash.

With a ban on thermal cars in Europe which is fast approaching, manufacturers must now hurry to switch to electric. This is also the case for Hyundai, which is preparing a major offensive in this area.

Less than 45,000 euros for this new version

And it already started a few years ago, with the launch of the Ioniq 5 in 2021. The electric compact, cousin of the Kia EV6, had been elected World Car of the Year 2022and has recently been released in a formidable sports variant badged N.

But three years later, it’s time for the star of the Korean brand to go through the restyling box. The latter was revealed last March, and this version is already available to order, as Hyundai announced in a press release, but only in England and Germany for the moment – ​​its arrival in France should not be long, however.

However, this already allows us to have a small idea of ​​the prices charged by our neighbors for this new version. The range starts from 43,900 euros to our German neighbours and 39,900 pounds (around 46,660 euros) in the United Kingdom – an unchanged rateaccording to Hyundai.

For this price you will be entitled to a new 63 kWh batteryoffering an autonomy of 440 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. Charging is carried out from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutesthanks to its 800 volt architecture, at a power of 260 kW.

A rate that is likely to be revised upon arrival in France, due to slightly different taxation in our country. In any case, the vehicle will not be eligible for the ecological bonus of 4,000 euros, because it is not part of the list of models that are entitled to it. The reason is its production in South Korea, which is considered too polluting.

A well-stocked range

In its least expensive finish, the compact has the right to the heat pump, but also to the highway driving assistance and to the 12.3-inch touch screen as indicated by the configurator. The latter is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as with the OTA (over the air) updates from a distance.

Several other finishes are also offered (including a new N-Line), but we don’t yet know if they will all make it to France. However, it is still an opportunity to take a quick look at the different equipment offered as standard on some of them, which will probably also be available in France.

For example, we can cite the V2L bidirectional charge, on the 2nd level of finish called Premium, the induction smartphone charger and my many driving aids. Among them, level 2 semi-autonomous driving, the forward collision avoidance system and the intelligent cruise control.

Two other engines are offered, with a new 84 kWh battery (compared to 77.4 kWh previously), still rechargeable from 10 to 80% in 18 minutes.

The first version has a rear engine 228 hpwhat to offer a range of 570 kilometers WLTP. A four-wheel drive variant is also offered with the addition of a front engine, with 325 horsepower and capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 s. The autonomy is then slightly reduced, but still displays 546 kilometers on a single charge.

It is necessary to count respectively 51,650 euros and 59,400 euros for these versions in Germany. The French prices should be made public soon, but it may suffer from competition which is entitled to the 4,000 euro bonus, such as the Renault Scénic E-Tech, the Volkswagen ID.4 or even the Tesla Model Y, assembled in Berlin.
