A certain cameo in the first episode of “The Idol” has fans speculating: Could the show be set in the same universe as Sam Levinson’s other flagship series, “Euphoria”?
Fans of Euphoria and The Idol, two creations by Sam Levinson, are convinced that the two shows take place in the same universe after the highly noticed cameo of Alexa Demie (Maddy Perez in Euphoria) in the first episode of The Idol.
Son of Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson, Sam Levinson made a splash creating the teen drama Euphoria in 2019, winner of an Emmy, which features Zendaya as a recovering drug addict. He is now the co-creator of another relentlessly explicit HBO program, The Idolwhich stars Lily Rose-Depp as a pop star with a complex relationship with a cult leader and nightclub owner, played by singer The Weeknd.
Broadcast on June 4, the first episode of The Idol has therefore unveiled the cameo of Alexa Demie: we see her dancing in a nightclub alongside Jocelyn (Lily Rose Depp) and his group. Although his appearance is fleeting, fans are now convinced that the two HBO shows take place in the same universe … and it seems that they are right!

Indeed, according to PopCrave (via Screenrant), Sam Levinson, which recently premiered the first two episodes of its new series at the Cannes Film Festival, previously confirmed that both shows are set in “the same universe” and that Alexa Demie will be making an appearance in her new creation. Although the actress is only credited as “club girl number two”, the showrunner’s comment therefore confirms that it is indeed Maddy who is seen on screen.
Now that it’s known that both shows exist in the same universe, it will be interesting to see if Maddy knowing a world famous pop star will be mentioned or factored into season 3 ofEuphoria, which should experience a time jump. But it is above all possible that this cameo is nothing more than a simple wink to the fans of the show.
