The religious festival turned into a fiasco on Sunday, October 30, in the Indian city of Morbi, in the west of the country. As hundreds of people, including women and children, gathered on a famous suspension bridge in the state of Gujarat, the cables gave way.
The fall was fatal for at least 132 people, according to local authorities. These dispatched many divers and soldiers to organize a large rescue operation. An investigation was also opened to determine the causes of the collapse of this bridge, built in 1880, during the British colonial era.
