“The Innocent” gets the lion’s share of the nominations

The Innocent and The Night of 12 are the films with the most nominations for the 2023 Césars, according to the list released Wednesday, January 25 by the Academy – respectively eleven and ten. Third ex aequo, In body and pacificationwith nine nominations each.

Louis Garrel, director and leading role in The Innocent comedy which narrates the misfortunes of a son embroiled in a burglary by his mother’s lover who has just been released from prison -, is nominated for the title of best actor and that of best original screenplay (with Tanguy Viel and Naïla Guiguet), while her acting partners Anouk Grinberg, Noémie Merlant and Roschdy Zem are nominated in the Best Supporting Female and Male categories.

The Night of 12, thriller by Dominik Moll which recounts the impasse of an investigation for feminicide, arouses among other nominations for best actor in a supporting role (Bouli Lanners), best adaptation (Gilles Marchand and Dominik Moll) and best male hope (Bastien Bouillon) .

As for In bodythe latest dramatic comedy by Cédric Klapisch describing the conversion to contemporary dance of a ballet dancer after an injury, it gives François Civil the opportunity to run for the César for best supporting role, and its director for best screenplay original.

Benoît Magimel is nominated as best actor for Pacifiction – Torment on the Isles. The thriller, in which he camps a high commissioner from Tahiti immersed in a troubled postcolonial universe, also appears in the categories of best direction (Albert Serra) and best costumes (Praxedes de Vilallonga), among others.

The 4,705 members of the Academy now have one month to decide between the candidates, before the awards evening which will be chaired by Tahar Rahim, and presented collectively with nine masters and mistresses of ceremony, from Emmanuelle Devos to Eye Haïdara, via Alex Lutz and Ahmed Sylla.
