No way for Intel to be the first to launch a platform that focuses exclusively on DDR5.

Published on Baidu and relayed by Videocardz, information related to Intel’s new Raptor Lake platform has surfaced on the Net. Information that confirms the platform’s expected dual compatibility with DDR4 and DDR5.

DDR4-3200 and DDR5-5600

Last November, Intel was the first to provide support for DDR5 with the Alder Lake generation. However, aware of the scarcity and high cost of this new memory, Intel had managed so that DDR4 could also be used.

A decision that the company is therefore renewing for Raptor Lake, which should arrive in October/November. On this generation, there is also no question of changing DDR4 support since we are talking about DDR4-3200. On the other hand, DDR5 will be basic in DDR5-5600 against DDR5-4800 on Alder Lake and DDR5-5200 on the AMD AM5.

Note also that the leak of this Intel slide helps to refute the rumor of PCIe Gen 5 support by the Z790 chipset. PCIe Gen 5 will therefore remain the prerogative of the CPU on the Raptor Lake generation even if the chipset could have more PCIe Gen 4 lines.
