Marcel Amont left us. The singer who was preparing to celebrate his 94th birthday in April had distinguished himself in the music hall, but also in the cinema by participating in the shooting of several films.
No less thanabout thirty albums to his credit, more than 800 songs recorded in 75 years of career and tubes in shambles, among which The Mexican Or Blue, white, blond… Marcel Amont was one of the last great figures of the music hall French. He died on the night of Wednesday March 8 to Thursday March 9, according to a press release from his family and issued by AFP. The precise circumstances of the death of the singer who was aged 93 years old have not been detailed. The last time he was seen on stage dates back to 2020, when he was appointed president of the Georges-Moustaki Prize jury. The previous year, he celebrated his 90th birthday at the Alhambra (Paris), in the company of several friends including Serge Lama, Christophe, Laurent Baffie or even Bernard Montiel and Nicoletta.
It was on stage that everything really started for this Bordeaux man born April 1, 1929 and who has always been seduced by the show business. After drawing public attention to him in his hometown, it was at the Olympia that he distinguished himself in 1956 by joining Edith Piaf who offered him the first parts of her shows. From there, everything is linked and he recorded his first album, eponymous, published in 1957. At the same time, he was awarded the Prix de l’Académie Charles-Cros, along with Serge Gainsbourg and Juliette Gréco. Throughout the next two decades, Marcel Amont expanded his discography and stage success was confirmed, starting with a residence of more than three months at Bobino in 1962. He multiplied collaborations in parallel, Charles Aznavour wrote to him Blue, white, blond who became an immediate success that year, or Georges Brassens, who signed for him Mireille’s hat in 1975. Marcel Amont also sang custom-written titles by Julien Clerc, Maxime Le Forestier and Alain Souchon afterwards.
After a period of withdrawal, he returned to the spotlight in 2006 with the disc Jet lagand collaborating with Aldebert and Emma Daumas.
