Slowly, but surely, Apple suppliers are preparing for the production of a new iPad Pro Oled. We learned this week that the start of production would be planned for the first quarter of 2024.
Casually, things are slowly starting to become clearer for the iPad Pro Oled. Mentioned by rumor for many months now, the device would indeed see the light of day in 2024, and potentially in less than a year if we are to believe the information published a few days ago by the firm Omdia, taken in the wake of the Korean media The Elec.
According to the firm, Apple’s usual subcontractors are indeed preparing for the mass production of 11 and 13-inch iPad Pro equipped with OLED screens. In this case, the start of this large-scale manufacturing would be whistled somewhere in the first quarter of 2023. We can therefore imagine that a launch would take place a few months later, potentially in the spring of 2024 or during the summer.
The iPad Pro: a product that does not stagnate in terms of display
The arrival, probably soon, of the Oled on the iPad Pro would not however mark the first major evolution of the device in terms of display, far from it. Since 2017, Apple’s high-end slate has welcomed many new features in this field, with for example the addition of ProMotion technology (allowing the screen to oscillate between 24 and 120 Hz dynamically, in depending on the content displayed). In 2021, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro also switched to mini-LED display technology in order to gain in image quality and in particular in contrast.
The installation of Oled screens on the iPad Pro would nevertheless allow Apple to improve its ProMotion technology by lowering the refresh rate to a minimum of 10 Hz in order to save energy more easily in certain operating contexts. use. As a reminder, the iPhone 14 Pro and their Oled screen can even go down to 1 Hz only through their Always-On mode. It’s not impossible that the same thing will eventually happen on the iPad Pro too.
Apple would rely anyway on slightly larger Oled panels, offering its next iPad Pro a slightly increased diagonal: 11.1 and 13 inches respectively, against 11 and 12.9 inches currently.
The firm would finally use (note the conditional) very thin hybrid OLED screens, based on a combination of flexible and rigid materials. These panels would lead to slightly thinner iPad Pros… but would have the disadvantage of being more expensive to produce than the mini-LED screens of the current iPad Pros. We should therefore expect a price increase for new models, Apple not being known to cut corners.
