While all eyes of the specialized press and fans are now on the iPhone 15, the previous generation continues to be a hit. Indeed, the research firm Omdia has just published its bi-annual study on smartphone sales around the world.

We learn in particular that the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the top model of this generation, has passed at no less than 26.5 million copies worldwide between January and June 2023. A great performance for this device, which as a reminder is offered from €1,479 in France.

Apple remains No. 1, Premium models always sell more

Without real surprise, we mainly find in the rest of the TOP 5 Apple devices. The iPhone 14 Pro thus monopolizes the second position, with 21 million units shipped. On the third step of the podium, we then find the Vanilla model, i.e. the iPhone 14, with a score honorable of 16.5 million copies sold. 4th place goes to another Apple smartphone, namely the iPhone 13 with 15.5 million devices who have found takers. It will be necessary to reach the 5th position to finally find a smartphone from a competing brand, namely the Galaxy A14, an entry-level device from Samsung (12.4 million devices sold).

Note that if we compare the current ranking with that of last year over the same period, deliveries of the No. 1 aircraft fell by 7.2 million. Indeed, it is the iPhone 13 which has established itself on the world stage in 2022 with 33.7 million units. However, earnings were higher for Apple in 2023, the iPhone 14 Pro Max being much more expensive than the iPhone 13.

According to Omdia, “the global smartphone market is registering negative growth as the mid-to-low end market shrinks due to the economic recession and the expansion of the second-hand smartphone market. In contrast, the high-end smartphone market is steadily growing as replacement demand for Apple’s high-end models remains strong.” The firm goes on to explain that the sales volume of the Pro and Max models is increasing year on year. Proof is, the iPhone 14 Pro Max actually outsold its predecessor (26.5 million against 23 million).
