The front camera of the next iPhone 14 should see one of the biggest updates in the history of the apple smartphone.

If Apple has always been quick to improve the various rear photo sensors of its smartphones, the front camera has undergone much more measured developments.

The biggest update to the iPhone’s front sensor in several years

The manufacturer has mainly added software features to its front sensor, such as different modes that use image analysis to apply special filters and effects to faces.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 should finally offer users a real update to the front sensor for better selfies and video calls.

The expert published a note on his blog indicating that Apple will add autofocus to this iPhone, which will allow more precise focus on his face or that of his relatives during a group selfie.

A new larger sensor and autofocus for the front camera of the iPhone 14

The photo sensor should also benefit from a larger size with an aperture of ƒ/1.9 instead of ƒ/2.2 currently. It could therefore capture more light and offer better image rendering, especially in dark environments.

The front photo module would go from five to six elements. Sony, which already provides photo sensors for all iPhones in circulation, would still be a major Apple partner. The Californian manufacturer would also use the services of Genius and Largan for the optics. Alps and Luxshare would take care of the autofocus system. Cowell and LG Innotek would also be on the list of suppliers for this new front photo module.

It now remains to be seen which iPhone 14 model will have the honor of hosting this new front camera. Rumors are increasingly persistent about Apple’s desire this year to distinguish its iPhone 14 Pro from the base models. Pro devices should notably benefit from a more advanced rear camera module, a reduced notch on the screen but also an A16 Bionic processor while the iPhone 14 would recycle the A15 Bionic processor from the iPhone 13.

To this question, Ming-Chi Kuo does not give a straight answer but suggests that all models would integrate this new front camera. Definitive answer at the start of the school year, during the presentation of the new models.
