The machine is already launched. Rumors surrounding Apple’s iPhone 15 are starting to spread. Among them, important information comes from the manufacturer of one of the main components of this future product: TSMC.
A much less energy-consuming chip
According to the Taiwanese company that engraves the SoCs of the Cupertino company’s products, the chip of the next iPhone 15 could well focus primarily on its energy efficiency, rather than raw power. In any case, this is what emerges from the declarations of its president, Mark Liu, reported by Bloomberg on the occasion of the launch of mass production of the company’s 3 nm chips: “TSMC’s 3nm chips offer better performance than 5nm chips, while requiring about 35% less power.”
By going from 5 to 4 nm at TSMC, the A16 Bionic chip has gained in efficiency and performance. However, if we believe the indiscretions of the manufacturer, the real good generation would be expected with the transition to 3 nm at the foundry.
Capabilities that several Apple devices would benefit from?
According to the words of 9to5Mac, TSMC is in charge of manufacturing the A17 Bionic chips for the iPhone but should also use this engraving for the M2 Pro chips of the next MacBook Pro. The founder will also take care, a priori, of manufacturing future M3 processors. The brand’s computers could therefore also take advantage of this leap in autonomy thanks to better energy management.
