The iPhone 16 should fix the iPhone 15’s biggest problem

New information confirms what analysts have been saying for months: Apple’s next A18 chip should be integrated into all iPhone 16s, not just the Pro models.

With this third round of rumors on the subject of the chips of the future iPhone 16, we can safely be assured that they will be verified next year. The next iteration of the smartphone should stop reserving its most powerful chip for the Pro and Pro Max models, and that’s good news.

The A18 in all iPhone 16s?

The information comes to us this time from the specialized site MacRumorswhich according to its sources, already has a preview of development versions of iOS 18. Apple’s mobile OS should arrive in beta version by June before being deployed globally in September, at the same time than the release of the iPhone 16.

According to information gleaned from the code, iOS 18 (nicknamed “Crystal” internally at Apple) mentions four smartphone models (16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max). So far nothing surprising, but each model mentions the integration of a new SoC (System-on-Chip) under the name t8140, or Tahiti, the nickname of the A18 chip in development at Apple.

This chip is integrated into basic iPhones as well as more powerful models. This was one of the great regrets of the current generation: while the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max offered the power of the A17 Pro, the iPhone 15 was “relegated” to the A16 Bionic present in the iPhone 14 Pro.

We can therefore expect iPhone 16s to be significantly more powerful than their predecessors in 2024, while some rumors mention a new engraving process called N3E, still in 3nm, but with expected gains in terms of performance and energy efficiency. .
