The facts took place in Florida last February, reports FoxNews which indicates that a complaint was filed on November 28, 2022 against the caterer in charge of the reception. A guest named Virginia Ann Taylor-Svoboda claims to have unknowingly consumed food containing levels “toxic” of marijuana. She says she suffers from “serious and permanent sequelae”.
Food containing cannabis
The caterer, Joycelyn Bryant, of Joycelyn’s Southern Kitchen Inc., is accused of allowing her dishes to be infused with harmful levels of cannabis at the request of the bride and groom. The plaintiff seeks more than $30,000 in damages. “He knew, or should have known, that allowing food containing marijuana to be served was going to harm the wedding guests”, she said in her complaint. The bride and groom must also answer for several counts, including food spoilage and marijuana delivery.
On February 19, 2022, the wedding reception went sour started complaining because they felt “destroyed”. The police were alerted to the incident. A guest told officers he felt he had “drugs in him” after only consuming food and wine. The emergency services had to take care of several people on the spot while other guests were sent to the hospital. A woman reportedly told authorities that the food was mixed with marijuana. Samples of the food served at the event were sent to a lab for testing. The results revealed that the lasagna and bread were positive for THC, the psychoactive substance in marijuana.
