the last chance weekend at the key places of love

THE OPINION OF THE “WORLD” – WHY NOT

Sandrine Leroy (Charlotte Gainsbourg) announces to her husband (José Garcia), who never responds to her messages, that she wants a divorce. To dissuade her, he organizes a weekend with their two teenagers through the key places of their love story. A square, a square, a Formula 1 hotel, everything that built their happiness…

A series of caricatured comic situations on the meaning of love and family, and outrageous happenings, carried by a few popular comedians (Jérôme Niel, Baptiste Lecaplain), the film fails to capture all these little things which end up lead to divorce. In this way, this break-up comedy struggles to escape its initial concept – the journey into the past – to give it a zest of verisimilitude. It must be added that Charlotte Gainsbourg’s tremolo playing goes poorly with the gags and punchlines, giving the sensation of seeing a film cut in two. Close to breaking up, therefore.

Awarded the grand prize of the Alpe-d’Huez International Film Festival, We, The Leroysby Florent Bernard (or FloBert, author of short films broadcast on YouTube, screenwriter for the series The flame or the movie Vermin) confirms the recent taste of French cinema for rescuing couples in crisis: Travel in Italy (2023), by Sophie Letourneur, The Peace Process (2022), by Ilan Klipper and We smile for the photo (2022), by François Uzan, the latter already offering the same type of plot.

French film by Florent Bernard. With Charlotte Gainsbourg and José Garcia (1h42).
