The Last of Us: A release this year for the remake and a Director’s Cut for TLOU 2?

Last year, we heard about a rumor about a remake for The Last of Us first of the name, surprising as it sounds (given that the original game still holds up well today). Naughty Dog also recently asserted on several projects at once, and it was easy to imagine that several projects The Last of Us were in the boxes. And according to Tom henderson, a renowned insider, it could be that we are entitled to a real festival around the license in 2022.

A year around Joel and Ellie?

In a series of tweet, Henderson said 2022 could be a busy year for the series, with in particular the release of the remake of the first, a Director’s Cut for The Last of Us Part II and multiplayer standalone :

I have heard from multiple sources that TLOU remake is almost finished and could be released in the second half of 2022 […] With the multiplayer of TLOU 2 and TLOU 2 Director’s Cut – I heard they were coming too – but I don’t know when and how.

VGC confirms the insider’s statements by claiming to have heard the same things. He then speculates that it could fill Sony’s year-end if ever God of War Ragnarok was postponed to early 2023, and also declares that all these releases could be used to boost the series on HBO, whose filming will last a few more months.
