The Last of Us: already impressive audience figures for the HBO series and a preview of the next episodes in a new trailer

The first episode of the series The Last of Us aired Sunday night in the United States, and has been available since Monday morning on Amazon Prime Video France. It will be some time before we know the international audience figures, but those for the broadcast on the cable channel HBO and the video on demand service HBO Max have already been communicated.

Thus, for its only launch party, series The Last of Us attracted 4.7 million viewers, a very nice score for a project of its kind. It certainly remains far from the 9.986 million spectators of the first episode of House of the Dragon, spin off highly anticipated from Game Of Thronesbut it is still the second best channel launch since 2010 and the 4.81 million faces glued to the first episode of Broadwalk Empire.

Deadline compare this success to Euphoria, whose Season 2 premiere drew 2.4 million viewers at launch last year, but averaged 19.5 million viewers per episode over a longer run. According to HBOthe first broadcast represents on average 20 to 40% of the total audience of an episode: the audience of The Last of Us should therefore still grow significantly over the weeks thanks to VOD.

“We are thrilled to see fans of the series and the game experience this iconic story in a new way, and we express our gratitude to them for helping to make it a success,” said Casey Bloys, President and Chief management of HBO & HBO Max Content. “Congratulations to Craig, Neil and the brilliant cast and crew who have worked tirelessly to bring this series to life. We look forward to fans around the world enjoying the rest of the season. »

“Our goal was simply to make the best possible adaptation of this beloved story for as wide an audience as possible,” Mazin and Druckmann said. “We are thrilled to see how many fans, old and new, have welcomed The Last of Us into their homes and hearts. »

If the spoilers don’t scare you, a new trailer already gives a preview of the episodes that will be broadcast in the coming weeks. You can also watch the opening credits at your leisure above. And you can see the series on Amazon Prime Video to €6.99 per month or €69.90 per year.
