The Last of Us, Devotion, There Will Be Blood… Films and series to watch in streaming this week

It is this week that the streaming year really kicks off with one of the series events of 2023. Digital therefore offers you its selection of new releases to watch on the Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and Canal+ platforms during the week of January 16, 2023.

The Last of Us (Prime Video)

Adapted from the video game released in 2013 on PlayStation 3, The Last of Us is signed in particular by Craig Mazin, author of the sublime series Chernobyl. We find there his talent for writing and his ability to give a human and poignant dimension to disasters. blade runner 2049 (Prime Video)

In 2049, society is weakened by the many tensions between humans and their bioengineered slaves. Officer K is a Blade Runner: part of an elite task force tasked with finding and eliminating those who disobey human orders. When he discovers a long-buried secret capable of changing the world, the highest authorities decide to hunt him down and eliminate him. His only hope is to find Rick Deckard, a former Blade Runner who has been missing for decades.

This sequel to the cult film blade runner (1982) by Ridley Scott offers a sublime blockbuster with an ambitious and aesthetically impeccable story. If his desire to develop the universe of the original work of Philip K. Dick ends up making him a little indigestible, the proposal of director Denis Villeneuve (Dunes, prisoners) remains impressive and some sequences are simply masterful. An imperfect sequel, but one that intelligently digs into its themes and mythology and is worth the detour for an exciting Ryan Gosling/Harrison Ford face-off. From January 18 on Amazon Prime Video.

The story of a female snow leopard who settles in a hostile valley in Tibet to give birth and raise her two cubs despite enormous odds.

There Will Be Blood (Canal+)

Near a miserable California village, prospector Daniel Plainview carefully studies the surrounding geology. We did not lie to him: here, the earth is full of oil. Managing to convince a breeder to sell him a plot of land, he begins to exploit this unsuspected wealth…

Signed by the talented Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Licorice Pizza), this bitter and violent fresco on the madness of the beginnings of oil exploitation in the United States is undoubtedly one of the best films of its director. There Will Be Blood captivates with its magnificent images, the inhabited interpretation of its actors (the volcanic Daniel Day-Lewis in the lead) and its uncompromising portrait of America.
