The series adaptation of the popular video game series “The Last of Us” started in January 2023. After initial skepticism from many fans, the series quickly became a huge hit for the US broadcaster HBO.

According to the US magazine “Deadline”, the series even had the second biggest premiere after “House of the Dragon” and since the start of “Boardwalk Empire” in 2010.

The series tells of a dystopian future in which a fungal infection attacks humans and turns them into zombie-like monsters. The only hope of stopping the infection is 14-year-old girl Ellie. In order to save mankind, the teenager sets out together with Joel and travels through the devastated USA.

Starring alongside Bella Ramsey (“Game of Thrones”) are Petro Pascal (“The Mandalorian”), Gabriel Luna (“Terminator: Dark Fate”), Anna Torv (“Mindhunter”), Nico Parker (“Reminiscence”), Murray Bartlett ( “The White Lotus”), Nick Offerman (“Pam & Tommy”), Melanie Lynskey (“Two and a Half Men”) and many more in the series.

As the showrunners of the series, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, revealed before the start of the series, they only want to focus on adapting the games. This makes it very possible that “The Last of Us Part 2” will serve as a template for the second season.
