The Last of Us: fewer episodes, already mentioned Seasons 3 and 4, the creators reveal a lot of information

The first season of The Last of Usadapted from the video games of Naughty Dog, caused a sensation. Series live action is a success, many spectators have discovered the franchise through these nine episodes, some have focused on video games, but others are quietly waiting for the continuation of the series on HBO Max.

We will still have to wait many months before discovering the Season 2 of The Last of Usbut Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have already spoken with Deadline to reveal what awaits us. The creators, showrunnersexecutive producers and directors announce that there Season 2 of The Last of Us will be shorter, with seven episodes, but the story will continue through a future Season 3 which will be longer. However, some episodes will be quite long, like the one dedicated to Bill And Frank in the Season 1 which was almost 1 hour 15 minutes. Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) explain :

The story material we got from The Last of Us Part II is much more than the story material from the first game, so part of what we had to do early on was figure out how to tell that story over time. seasons. When you do that, you look for natural stopping points, and as we explained, this season the stopping point seemed to come after seven episodes.

HBO has not yet confirmed the production of the Season 3, but it will probably only be a matter of time, the idea had already been mentioned after the success of the first episodes. Craig Mazin has not changed his speech, it will take several seasons to tell the full story of The Last of Us Part II :

We don’t think we’ll be able to tell the story even in two seasons (2 and 3) because we’re taking our time and going down interesting paths, which we also did a little bit in Season 1. We think it will will almost be assured that – as long as people continue to watch and we can continue to make more television – Season 3 will be considerably longer. And indeed, the story will perhaps require a Season 4.

One thing is absolutely certain, I don’t see how we could tell the remaining story after Season 2 ends in an additional season.

The message is clear: viewers, watch future episodes of the series The Last of Us so that HBO Max launches production of Seasons 3 And 4 so that Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann finish their story! The creators of the series insist, if the Season 2 is shorter, it’s good so they can take their time, this Season 2 will therefore not cover all the events of The Last of Us Part II. In terms of atmosphere, it will be very different. Neil Druckmann, games director, recalls that The Last of Us is a kind of love story, while TLOU Part II is a story of revenge and revenge, so these next episodes should be darker. If you’ve played the game, you know. However, Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin make it clear that the history of the series will not go beyond that of the video gamesit remains to be seen The Last of Us Part III will give the screenwriters food for thought. For now, the two men are focused on existing games, there is already plenty to do and they already have a plan for several Seasons to tell all this.

HBO Max The Last of Us Season 2 2025

Fans will also be entitled to episodes which will return to events that occurred during the Season 1but with a different point of view. Again, if you’ve played the video game, no surprise. Unfortunately, the characters of Bill And Frank will not be back, they were treated to a very nice episode in the Season 1there where Bill was only a very minor character in the game. The creators of the series are expected to continue their momentum of fleshing out characters, without saying who, fans can only speculate. This Season 2 will obviously introduce new characters, and therefore new actors and actresses, with Pedro Pascal (Joel), Bella Ramsey (Ellie), Gabriel Luna (Tommy) and Rutina Wesley (Maria), but also Kaitlyn Dever (Abby), Isabela Merced (Dina), Young Mazino (Jesse), Ariela Barer (Email), Tati Gabrielle (Nora), Spencer Lord (Owen), Danny Ramirez (Manny) and Jeffrey Wright (Isaac). Actress Catherine O’Hara (Bettlejuice, Mom I missed the plane !) will also be present in the casting, in an as yet unknown role. New heads which made filming easier, according to Craig Mazin:

The first week of filming a new season of a show is inherently difficult because you’re going back to work. You have to loosen up a bit. We’re working with new actors playing new characters, we’re discovering new things and this week has gone as well as I could have imagined. We were able to work with some of the new actors; they are exceptional. And the material that we’ve shot and the new elements that we’ve included are great. I’m incredibly optimistic about what we’re doing here, and it’s only just getting started. I think we are ready to offer something special. I hope that’s how it goes.

Beautiful words which will obviously delight fans, but we will still have to wait before discovering these new episodes of The Last of Us, there Season 2 is not expected before 2025 on HBO Max. Until then, you can find the Season 1 on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with steelbook in limited edition from €49.99 on Amazon, Cdiscount And Fnac.
