The Last of Us Multiplayer will be Naughty Dog’s “biggest online experience”

Naughty Dog’s franchise The Last of Us was the focus of Summer Game Fest last night. Although the surprise of its arrival was partly spoiled by an unfortunate leak, a remake of the first opus of The Last of Us on PS5 has been announced. The Last of Us Part I Firefly Edition will therefore be released on September 2 on the next-gen PlayStation console, but Neil Druckmann (co-president of Naughty Dog) sees beyond it and has already announced the existence of ‘a secret project…

The Last of Us together!

This is what Neil Druckmann announced yesterday, during the Summer Game Fest, defining the future production as a “secret project”. No title, no gameplay and even less release date were revealed by the co-president. However, he described the production as being a brand new The Last of Us multiplayer experience.

Although the subject of a multiplayer mode has been discussed for The Last of Us II, it would be a stand-alone, that is to say an independent production of the first two games. According to Neil Druckmann, the reason why it was decided to make it a separate game was that the project took on a phenomenal scale in the studios of Naughty Dog.

The only visual that we have for the moment on the mysterious project is the one below, unveiled during the event.

New plot and characters

Qualified for “greatest online experience” by Druckmann, the new multiplayer opus will introduce players to new characters as well as’a completely new map. On the visual, it is therefore possible to observe two protagonists, until now unknown to the players. As for the map, some clues prove to us that the plot will surely take place in the western United States, in San Francisco.

First of all, the bridge at the bottom left of the image is strongly reminiscent of the Golden Gate, the city’s flagship bridge by the bay. Also, the palm trees as well as the houses are typical of California, especially San Francisco.

Unfortunately, fans of the license will have to be patient, because Neil Druckman said that the next information on the multiplayer game will not arrive until next year… minimum. To keep you going, the experience promises to be “similar to previous single player experiences developed by Naughty Dog before, in an even more ambitious way”, we look forward !
