Who are Bill and Frank? “The Last of Us” viewers have been asking themselves this question for several weeks, after all, the two men have been mentioned several times. In Episode 1, Joel sells a guard in the quarantine zone hydrocodone, which he appears to have received from his smuggling contacts, Bill and Frank. He also receives messages from them through the radio.

In Episode 2, Tess tells Joel and Ellie to go to Bill and Frank’s place, so that’s where the unlikely duo is headed. In episode 3 we finally get to know both men, but the template already tells us how the story will continue. Warning, from here follow spoilers for “The Last of Us”!

Bill and Frank, an unlikely couple

Bill is a survival expert and uses numerous traps to keep the mushroom zombies in Lincoln at bay. Frank joins him one day and they live together for almost 20 years. The video game only refers to them as “partners”, but the series clearly clarifies whether it is a romantic relationship.

Together they defend Lincoln from zombies and enemies while working as smugglers supplying the quarantine zones. One day Frank leaves Bill because Bill’s survival methods are too extreme for him.

When Joel and Ellie visit Bill looking for safety, Frank is already gone. Shortly thereafter, they find Frank in an empty house – he has hanged himself. After being bitten by mushroom zombies, he took his own life before he could transform. Joel and Ellie set off again, leaving Bill alone, whose fate, at least in the video games, remains unknown.
