The Last of Us Part 1: The leaks continue and the developers speak out!

The Last of Us Part I, while highly anticipated by gamers around the world, is subject to much debate. Whether it’s the price, or the many leaks that affect video game production, the Naughty Dog teams are not spared. Not long ago, just before the announcement of the remake’s release date during the Summer Game Fest, a leaker had revealed all the information that the company planned to reveal. Since then, the leaks have been linked and exclusive images of the game continue to be published long before Naughty Dog does.

The latest leak is an entire cinematic, showing, however, how much the developers have done a monumental graphic work. A new leak that has once again revolted the company’s teams, and there is reason!

An exceptional new cinematic

Leaked yesterday, this new cinematic shows us a key scene from the first opus of The Last of Us.
The one where Henry has to kill his own brother, Sam, who has been contaminated and attacks Ellie. At the end of the day, he will end up ending his life, in front of our two horrified protagonists.
The graphic emphasis is placed on the very intense facial expressions of the characters. The acting was already exceptional in the original version, and the work of the developers comes to perfect the whole scene.

The play of light has also been accentuated, and offers an exceptional rendering. The result is visually more than pleasant, and it is a real pleasure to be able to admire this cutscene… If only it came from Naughty Dog.

Endless developers

Some time ago, the Naughty Dog teams had started a rebellion against these leaks. Especially after the Summer Game Fest leak, which spoiled the surprise of an entire The Last of Us event. Arne Meyer (vice-president) and Samuel Prince (senior editor), had spoken alongside other employees of the company, in order to make things clear: leaks harm the work of developers.

“Leaks really suck. Especially when we’re on the verge of losing assets. It’s disheartening and frustrating for teams who have put their hearts into doing great things for our fans. […]”

“Now that this is all gaining momentum, I just wanted to say that leaks suck. They do a lot of damage to the productions of the developers, who are working hard to bring you these fabulous games. Assets for the public take a long time to create, then rework, get approved, go through all the legal stuff, ESRB, etc. Be cool!”

Although we greatly appreciated these new images, we cannot help but think that indeed, some of these leaks are detrimental to the entire strategy of the Naughty Dog teams, and that it is quite normal for employees to react. Regarding this last leak (the cutscene), the developers of The Last of Us Part I have not yet spoken. We are therefore impatiently awaiting the full game, so that we can discover this magnificent remake in its entirety… and not leaked this time!

Good news for PC players, eager to relive the adventures of Joel and Ellie! While the PS5 version has had a release date for some time now, the remake could land very soon on PC!
