The Last of Us Part 1: The PS5 remake is shown on video. The gameplay debate is raging!

Screenshots and videos of The Last of Us Part 1 emerged a few days ago on Reddit. Naughty Dog reacted by revealing 10 minutes of gameplay.

“hurtful” leaks

Along with the new images, the leaker revealed some new details about the remake. He affirms that the game supports VRR, 4K40 FPS (gameplay mode) and 4K60Fps (dynamic mode)and that the game will offer a range of new accessibility options as seen in The Last of Us: Part II. Additionally, when Joel upgrades a weapon, he will now be seen adding attachments.

More importantly, the person behind the leaks claims there will be no gameplay improvements and that most of the gameplay improvements relate to animations and audio.

The lack of gameplay change is central to the fears of gamers, many of whom feel The Last of Us Part 1’s release price is too high for graphics-only improvements. Indeed, and we can already see it in the replies under the tweet, many players seem exasperated by the fact that it is “a remaster of remasters” which would be worth at most thirty euros instead of the 80 that it will cost when it comes out.

Arne Meyer, Vice President of Naughty Dogreacted to the leaks on his personal Tweeter account:

The leaks really suck. Especially when we are about to unveil important elements. It’s disheartening and frustrating for teams who have put their hearts into doing great things for our fans. »

10 minutes of gameplay

No other choice therefore for Naughty Dog to send these 10 explosive minutes of gameplay with a little bitterness. Samuel Prince, Senior Editor on The Last of Us Part 1 (and Part 2)bounced back on the accusations about the unchanged gameplay by referring fans to their brand new video, and took the opportunity to also express his feelings on the leaks:

I just want to say that leaks suck. They are extremely hurtful to the developers who work tirelessly to bring you these wonderful games. The creation, review, approval, localization, legal permissions, ESRB, etc. resources for the public are very time consuming. Be nice ! »

Not too many new gameplay details, though Naughty Dog still insists the entire game has been redone. According to a post on the official PlayStation blogthem Friend and enemy AI would have been improved. Moreover, the addition of permadeath mode and a speed run mode add to the experience.

Will that be enough to silence the disgruntled?

The Last of Us Part I will be released for PlayStation 5 on September 2, 2022.
