Just canceled, The Last of Us Online reveals an image of what appeared to be the title’s main menu.

After several months of gestation, the multiplayer project in the universe of The Last of Us was ultimately canceled. Wishing to devote its efforts to what has forged its DNA over the last thirty years, the Californian studio Naughty Dog preferred to favor the development of single-player narrative games.

If we thought then that we should forever be satisfied with a single artwork for this famous multiplayer game, a leaker has recently shared a screenshot revealing the main menu of The Last of Us Online.

On the platform ResetEraa certain Dusk Golem, who in the past has already demonstrated the reliability of his information, wanted to take advantage of the cancellation of The Last of Us Online to share a screenshot he secretly kept around.

As you can see in the image below, we discover the main menu of this multiplayer production dedicated to The Last of Us. We can thus see the presence of the following tabs: “Lobby”, “Study”, “Bunk”, “Battlepass” and “Store”. The interface uses the visual codes adopted in The Last of Us Part 2.

At the very bottom, we can note the presence of a season system, which would then have forced the Naughty Dog teams to ensure significant monitoring of the game for years to come. This is also the reason why the studio ultimately made the painful decision to abandon the project.

What game modes could have been present in The Last of Us Online ?

If it is difficult to comment on the modes which could have composed this multiplayer project developed by Naughty Dog, remember that The Last of Us already benefited from a “Factions” mode that was very popular with players during its initial release on PlayStation 3, in 2013 (as well as in the remastered version released a year later on PS4).

Thus, we could easily imagine a return of the “Supply Raid” and “Survival” modes. Players also had the possibility of choosing their side between the Fireflies or the Hunters. The latter then had to harvest enough provisions (while completing certain additional challenges during the games) to ensure the survival and development of their clan.

The universe of The Last of Us perfectly prepared for survival (solo or team), a Battle Royal mode would also have had its place. Unfortunately for those who were impatiently waiting for it, The Last of Us Online will ultimately not have the chance to see the light of day.
