The Last of Us: The series will not span too many seasons and will be limited to the history of the games

In just ten days, the broadcast of the series The Last of Us will begin everywhere in the world, except in France where we are still waiting for an official broadcaster. While we are chomping at the bit in the face of this situation, the promotion of the series is greatly accelerating across the Atlantic, with Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin who make the rounds of the media to praise the merits of the series. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the two conductors of the series want to reassure fans by stating that the series will not stretch too much in length.

Only two seasons in anticipation?

While this is yet to be confirmed, the first season of the series is expected to adapt the entire events of the first game. The Last of Uswhile a potential second burst of episodes could cover the plot of The Last of Us: Part II.

What is somewhat more certain, however, is that the creators of the show do not want to pull the rope too mucheven if the series is successful. Mazin says he doesn’t want to extend the show over many seasons, insisting that endings are most important to him. Given that he recently had success with a limited series of only 5 episodes (Chernobyl), we tend to believe so.

Same story with Druckman, who says that the series will be limited to telling the plot of the games:

We don’t intend to tell stories beyond adapting the games. We won’t run into the same problem as Game of Thrones since The Last of Us Part II doesn’t end on a cliffhanger. »

In other words, when the adaptation has finished telling the events of the second game, it will also mark its end, except if a The Last of Us: Part III is born and comes to add a little matter to the universe. Which could well be possible for Druckmann, who declares in this same interview to have ” more stories to tell ».

As a reminder, the series The Last of Us airs on HBO on January 15.
