The Last Worker: a trailer for this enigmatic and particularly atypical narrative title

The Last Worker is a narrative game set in a dystopian universe where Humanity faces the challenges of an increasingly automated world. We embody kurt, the main character of the story and the last titular worker of the Jungle Corporation, helped by Skew, his robotic partner, in a captivating story, full of emotion and pungent satires on our society. The adventure takes place within a huge distribution center the size of Manhattan, serving billions of people, packed with advanced computer technologies and algorithms, the Jungle Fulfillment Center, spearhead of the eccentric CEO Joseph Jungle. Doesn’t it remind you of a certain Amazon ?

The title developed by Oiffy and Wolf & Wood (behind A Chair in a Room: Greenwater, The Exorcist: Legion, Hotel R’n’R) looks resolutely atypical in its universe, its game mechanics that are unlike any other and its artistic touch which is reminiscent Borderlands (hand painted 3D visuals are based on concept art by comic book legend Mick McMahon Judge Dredd, 2000 AD). The narration, meanwhile, will hold a strong place in the adventure and will be served by dialogues from a prestigious cast. We find in particular Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), Jason Isaac (Harry Potter, Star Trek: Discovery), Clare-Hope Ashitey (Children of Men, The White King, Shooting Dogs) and David Hewlett (The Shape of Water, Stargate: Atlantis, Rise of the Planet of the Apes). On the music side, again it looks good, since the soundtrack is signed by Oliver Kraus, known for his collaborations with Adele, Sia and Florence and the Machine especially. the gameplay, although still enigmatic it must be admitted, will mix stealth, puzzle solving, intense action and will offer miles of play to go. Technology requires, we will have available a sort of floating pallet truck that does not risk trapping our feet, as well as a customizable anti-gravity gun, which would make a handler jealous.

This more detailed overview of The Last Worker still leaves many questions unanswered, but intrigues by its game mechanics and its story which promises to be deep and critical.

The title is scheduled for 2022, and will be playable both on flat screen and in virtual reality. It is advertised on Meta Quest 2, CP VR and on all home consoles on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch market. A version PSVR (PlayStation VR 2 ?) could also emerge.

If you haven’t taken the plunge yet, you can treat yourself to a Meta Quest 2 at the house of Baker, the Fnac, Darty Where Amazon for €349.99.
