Even if the very principle of “expansion” is not always unanimous, those of this very popular video game have imposed an impressive standard of quality! The latest DLC reaches new heights.
Destiny 2’s latest expansion is causing Metacritic’s counters to panic… As we write these lines, the DLC The Final Shape (or “La Forme Finale” in French) gets a 93/100 for its PS5 version on the reference site. An impressive score that – if maintained – places Bungie’s baby ahead of juggernauts like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (92/100), The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered (90/100) as well as indie sensations like Animal Well (91/100) or Balatro (90/100). The addition of content was released on June 4 and should be the subject of further criticism.
A conclusion with great fanfare
The very favorable reception of The Final Shape is understandable: this is the conclusion of the “Light and Darkness” saga, started in 2014 by the 1st Destiny. In this adventure, the Guardians, played by the players, must stop at all costs the Witness (the main antagonist) who threatens to reshape the universe according to his will. To do this, the heroes will have to enter the Traveler, a large moon which is the source of their powers, and discover the Pale Heart, a whole new area! The Final Form does not, however, mark the end of Destiny 2, which will welcome other DLC in the future.
A reference ?
On the program in The Final Shape, we find a new subclass, the Prismatic doctrine (which brings together all the existing doctrines), weapons, enemies and a new raid! In short, a very complete menu, which delights the press. IGN France (who gave a score of 9/10) speaks for example of a masterful conclusion which promises “a radiant future if such a level (of quality) is maintained”. According to the French media, The Final Form is everything a Destiny fan could have dreamed of, with “a striking destination with lots of things to do, a very good campaign, a poignant story, an already cult raid, and exhilarating new powers”. In short, it seems to be a blessing.
