Windows has updated and prevents some PCs from staying connected to the Internet when in tethering mode. A bug already listed by Microsoft, which affects several versions of the operating system.
Although Internet connection sharing can be very useful on a smartphone, it is less so on a computer. But still, it can come in handy in some situations on PCs. Microsoft does offer a wi-fi hotspot option on Windows. Since the last update of the operating system however, some computers can no longer stay connected to the Internet when broadcasting a wi-fi network.
An update that impacts connection sharing
A few days ago, Microsoft rolled out the KB5014679 update to Windows. Since this version, the developer has noticed an issue that limits the wi-fi hotspot function. Some computers running this version lose connection to the Internet when trying to connect other devices.
Microsoft’s support documentation states that “After installing KB5014697, Windows devices may not be able to use the Wi-Fi hotspot feature. When attempting to use the hotspot feature, the host device may lose connection to the internet after connecting a client device“. This is a known issue and it can be expected that Microsoft will work to roll out a fix.
