Initially planned for the current summer, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4000 should not be launched before the end of the year. In question, large stocks of GeForce RTX 3000 and an excessive second-hand supply.
After undermining the availability of the GeForce RTX 3000s throughout their lifecycle, cryptocurrency mining is once again wreaking havoc by indirectly pushing back the launch of the GeForce RTX 4000s. August, for availability in September — ultimately, this deadline would slide towards the end of the year, or even the beginning of 2023.
A saturated market not conducive to a launch
The recent cryptocurrency crash having put a halt to mining, the market found itself saturated, with a sharp decline in demand for graphics cards – despite the observed drop in prices. This new deal may have forced Nvidia to revise its plans. It would seem that manufacturers and resellers are struggling to sell current stocks despite a weekly promotion of Nvidia with its Restocked & Reloaded program. And that’s without counting on the high availability of graphics cards on the second-hand market, which also encourages the father of the GeForces to review his plans.
Nvidia also wanted to pull the rug out from under Intel and its Arc graphics cards. However, given the driver issues with Intel, Arc graphics cards no longer seem to pose a threat to Nvidia. We will have to watch for the announcement of the launch of graphics cards with AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture to see if Nvidia wants to draw the first one.
